What exactly is a biomass boiler?
A biomass boiler burns recently living matter, such as wood chips or pellets, which produces heat energy when burnt. Biomass is classed as carbon neutral because the trees absorb as much CO² during their growth as it releases when it is burnt.
What fuel will my boiler use?
We use UK produced, Grade A Wood Pellets to fuel our biomass boilers that are usually a bi-product of wood manufacturing. This means they are composed of sawdust made from virgin softwood, which is compressed under high pressure along with a binding agent to make the high grade wood pellets.
How can you offer me a boiler for free?
The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) backed by the Government, provides a fixed sum for every kWh/T of energy generated by a biomass heating system. Viscount then uses these payments to offer you a free biomass boiler with free installation and commissioning along with completely free servicing, maintenance and parts for up to 20 years.
If it’s free, how do I know it’s a good boiler?
There are a lot of different manufacturers out there at the moment offering their biomass systems, but at Viscount we only use 195kw Hargassner Boilers who are based in Weng, Austria. Hargassner are a multi award winning biomass production company founded in 1984 who provide the most reliable, highest quality biomass boilers. Take a look at the video just below this section to learn more.
How much money can I save by switching to a biomass boiler?
Depending on which fuel and how much consumption you currently use, you can save up to 70% on your heating bills.
What do I need to do to maintain my boiler?
Absolutely nothing. The boiler is a fully automated system which means that you need to do nothing as it alerts us when it requires maintenance. We have a rough idea of when parts may need replacing over the 20 year duration, so in order to try and eliminate breakdowns, we aim to replace these parts up to 5 years in advance. All scheduled servicing and maintenance takes place during the summer months to minimise disruption and a full service usually takes less than a day to complete.
What about fuelling the boiler?
The boiler contains a real time monitoring device, which will tell us exactly how much fuel is left in the pellet store. Depending on what you have arranged we might automatically “top up” monthly, or wait until your supply gets to an acceptable minimum amount, typically 25% remaining.
Does the boiler give out any waste residue?
On initial combustion a little smoke may be seen from the flue for a minute or two, but this smoke dissipates at about 1 metre from the flue. Under normal operating conditions you will only notice what looks like a vapour trail, this is because biomass boilers burn so efficiently. The burning of the wood pellets produces ash which is collected about 4 times per year and disposed of safely. The ash from our pellets can be used as fertilizer – Please feel free to tell us if you wish to use the ash for your own use.
What happens if something goes wrong?
With every free boiler we offer you 20 years free maintenance, servicing, parts and labour so you don’t need to worry about any unexpected expenditure. Each boiler has a fault diagnostic device that works through an SMS/GPS system. This system will inform the engineer of the fault so they can arrive prepared to deal with the issue in hand. We also make sure your old heating system is left intact and can be used as a back up system so regardless what may occur, you will never be without heat.
